The German Sustainability Code

As part of the BMBF-funded project ""CFI - Climate Change, Financial Markets and Innovation" the Sustainable Business Institute (SBI) has decided, on basis of discussions in 2011, to support the further expansion of company profiles in accordance with the German Sustainability Code. For this purpose, the SBI has programmed a database which allows a representation of the German Sustainability Code on the website of the "Rat für Nachhaltige Entwicklung" (Council for Sustainable Development) and the market platform as well as on other websites.

With the approval of the German Sustainability Code in October 2011 the Council for Sustainable Development adopted a tool that makes sustainability performance of companies and organizations transparent, creates commitment and aims to achieve comparability. It is suitable for companies of any size and legal form and was developed in a dialogue process with numerous stakeholders.

Within the German Sustainability Code the areas of Corporate Governance, Ecology and Social. (ESG) are being defined with the help of twenty criteria, each with up to two performance indicators (KPIs). The KPIs are extracted from the standards of the Global Reporting Initiative – GRI and the European Federation of Financial Analysts and Societies - EFFAS.

In order to meet the German Sustainability Code, companies publish a declaration of compliance. A comprehensive report to the highest standards of GRI report (A +) or EFFAS (Level III) corresponds to the Code compliance. The submission of a declaration is also appropriate in this case.

These different types of declarations of compliance produce different presentation formats (on the market platform and the platform of the "Council for Sustainable Development". For a detailed image in accordance with the German Sustainability Code you will find an online presentation including pdf format, for other declarations only a pdf format.
